Make every second count…

Time and time again I hear the same old excuse – there are just not enough hours in the day.

And yet think about it… What’s the one thing we all have in common? Irrespective of our age, experience or gender – we all have just 24 hours in a day, right? So how is it that some people get so much more achieved within that same time frame?

My question to you would be; how are you spending your time?

So many business owners I meet are just brimming over with great ideas, things they want to do, but, for one reason or another they just never seem to have enough time. Rubbish!

The fact is that their focus and rate of implementation and execution is not where it should be, and it’s holding them back. Clear focus, implementation and execution is what separates the run-of-the-mill businesses from the extraordinary successful ones.

So here are 3 of my top tips to help you get more hours out of your day…

1. Tame the phone and your email.

I never answer my own phone. I outsource my call answering to a virtual service that answers every single inbound call to my business. I will never miss an important call and never have my day disrupted with calls I don’t need to take. Better yet – I only pay for that service when they answer the phone! That means no fixed overheads.

Don’t start your day with a coffee and opening your email – before you know it, you’ll find it’s lunchtime and you haven’t even got into the important stuff that will earn you money. We all get lots of email these days. Block time to deal with email during the day.

2. Link everything to your goals.

You must have a written plan. Not a 30 page B.S. document for the bank, I mean an A4 plan that details your objectives, strategy and action plan. (If you’d like a copy of my template drop me an email).

With this plan in front of you it’s easy to decide when something of interest appears in an email or arrives by post whether it will help you get closer to your goal… if not, park it and don’t get distracted.

 

3. Make and use daily “to do” lists

There’s something very magical and powerful about being able to cross things off a list once they’re done. You’ll get a sense of achievement rather than a sense of overwhelm. Create tomorrow’s list before you finish your day. It helps you clear your mind and will help you relax and sleep far better. In the morning review the list, decide on the order of importance, block time for each element and get to it. Try it, you’ll see it works.

Start with these three simple steps and you’ll soon realise there are more hours in the day than you thought. One thing I guarantee – you’ll become 10 times more effective.
